Breedprogram

Within the NORV we have a breeding council, where you are always welcome for an open and clear advice on strategies, planning, questions on genetics or the choice for studs and parent combinations.
The details of our overall breeding program are still in development, but it is our intention to advocate screening for genetic problems including HCM and PKD etc. By publishing these results we hope to set a standard amongst Ocicat breeders in the world. Also we aim at international stimulation of exchange of breeding animals by banishment of breeding-restrictions and harmonization of kitten-prices.
Inclusion of outcross with Abyssinians in breeding programs already has been implemented. This is a permitted cross breeding combination until at least 2015. The setup of new lines by outcross breeding of Ocicats and Abyssinians is not an easy and straight-forward process. We will keep you informed of the progress in the coming months. All ideas on cross breeding with Abyssinians are welcome but it is important to consider added value and health issues.
In the forthcoming newsletter we will pay more attention to breeding techniques and outcross. For our breeding policy and programs we are glad to be able to make use of the services of a genetic expert.
As you see, we surely are making progress with a coordinated breeding program, while the first results are encouraging. Through concerted efforts of our members a broader choice in stud services will become available. Recently a number of promising kittens have been born and even though they are still young the potential is already clear.
If you have any inquiry on Ocicat breeding, please don’t hesitate to contact our breeding council on breeding@norv.nl, they will help you further as best as they can.
